1. Install

  1. Install and activate WooCommerce, then Tarestack (Plugins → Add New → search “Tarestack”, or upload the zip).
  2. WooCommerce → EPR packaging → Settings: choose small or large producer, your default packaging activity (for example SO, supplied under your brand), the packaging set counted once per order (your shipping box) and which order statuses count.

2. Describe your packaging

Create a packaging set for each way you pack. Weigh each item and enter grams per item and a quantity. Plastic needs Rigid or Flexible; “Other” needs the material’s name. For a carton shared by 12 units, enter its weight divided by 12. Large producers (with Pro) also give each household (HH), public-bin (PB) and glass drink-container component its recyclability (RAM) rating, which GOV.UK requires in the file.

3. Assign packaging to products

Use the product’s “EPR packaging” tab, the variation’s packaging select (variations inherit the parent unless set), or “Assign by category”. The Assign tab lists products that still have no packaging.

4. Run the report

Report tab → choose a date range → Calculate. Large stores are processed in batches. Or use WP-CLI: wp tarestack report --from=2026-01-01 --to=2026-06-30.

5. Tarestack Pro

  1. Buy a plan; copy the key and download tarestack-pro.zip from the page shown after payment.
  2. Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin → choose the zip → Activate. Pro needs the free plugin.
  3. EPR packaging → Pro licence → paste the key → Activate.
  4. Defra file tab: enter your 6-digit organisation ID, choose the submission period, press “Calculate this period”, review the checks, tick the acknowledgement and download. Save a snapshot to Records.

What leaves your site

The free plugin makes no external requests. Pro sends your licence key and site address to tarestack.co.uk/api/v1/ when you activate or deactivate, once a day, when you press “Check now” and during WordPress update checks (plus the installed version). Nothing about your orders, products or customers is sent.
